One thing about getting older is that events start to run together. In this case Don and I met so long ago neither of us could recall when or where. For many years I have been seeking Don as my Special Guest and for many years his plate has been full. Well that day has finally arrived as Don has an opening for new business.

Don refers to himself as a Part Time CFO/Comptroller/CPA. He got his start in 1966 in the Toronto office of Coopers & Lybrand (today PricewaterhouseCoopers) later moving to New York's Rockefeller Center in 1972 and finally moving to Phoenix in 1974 as a manager partner with Coopers & Lybrand. In 1982 he joined Laventhal & Horwath as managing partner of the Phoenix office.

So what does Don do? Today Don handles much more than accounting. He sits on the Board of several companies handling banking relations and negotiations such as loans, credits, etc. He also oversees personnel work such as compliance, payroll, immigration, personnel files - the stuff companies are traditionally bad at but things that pose significant liability that companies are usually unaware of. He also deals with insurance companies and administrative chores the entrepreneur doesn't like to deal with including accounting, projections, interfacing with companies outside CPA's for taxes, audits, etc. (Note: Don does not do taxes or windows (except Microsoft)).

Other duties Don works with include negotiating buying and selling companies, shareholder problems and peace negotiations. Don normally works with about five companies at a time. Initially there can be a lot of work helping a company get organized but once Don gets things organized his work load eases up. Today he is able to accept a new client. If you need the best and hurry you may be able to catch Don. It's taken me many years so don't miss this opportunity!
