A major advantage to hiring Mr. Vaugier is the fact
his company encompasses two areas, design and
construction, which reduces overall costs of a project.
Mr. Vaugier has 30 years experience in construction and
design, studying architecture extensively. His company
concentrates on remodeling kitchens, bathrooms, room
expansions and second story additions. Mr. Vaugier is
President of the National Association of the Remodeling Industry,
Arizona chapter (NARI).  He recently appeared on KNXV-TV
Channel 15's "Around the House" March 4, 2000.  RLV Design
and Construction was awarded NARI's First Prize, Contractor
of the Year for bathrooms over $20,000 (1999).  Mr. Vaugier is a
Certified remodeler and is licensed in California and Arizona.

Mr. Vaugier and NARI agree on 5 of the biggest mistakes
made by homeowners when remodeling.

Mistake 1: Hiring the wrong contractor.  A contractor should
be bonded, insured, licensed, and a member of a professional
trade organization.

Mistake 2: Selecting inferior products to save money. Non-
quality products can be a hazard to both homes and residents,
and will end up costing more in the long run.

Mistake 3:  Overextending oneself on a do-it-yourself (DIY)
project.  Costs will dramatically increase if a contractor
must be found who will agree to take over a DIY job gone bad.

Mistake 4:  Improper planning.  The finished project will only
be as good as the design and plan.  Without proper planning,
unexpected problems could cause additional costs.

Mistake 5:  Not managing the budget. Homeowners should
budget 10% as a reserve for the unexpected.

There are certainly many other areas where we can make
mistakes but Mr. Vaugier feels that a contract should include a
comprehensive description of the project, payment schedule,
timetable and, should problems arise, alternative dispute
resolutions.

It is with great pleasure that Mr. Richard L. Vaugier, CR, owner
of RLV Design and Construction will be our Special Guest
this week.

Please plan on joining us to socialize, meet new friends and
learn much more on how to successfully remodel our homes.
